Once a month, we host our Women’s Circle for LBT (lesbian, bisexual and trans) women and girls, and our allies. It is a safe space for us to share our experiences and interact with one another. The group’s activities are facilitated by one or two of GrenCHAP’s members. Participants are encouraged to bring and share refreshments.
We aim to:
- Facilitate dialogue and the widening of perspectives among LBT women and allies;
- Supply products and information pertaining to women’s health;
- Foster the development of camaraderie;
- Educate participants on the socio-economic, political and cultural concerns of LBT women in Grenada.
Once a month, we host our Men’s Happy Hour for GBT (gay, bisexual and trans) guys, and allies. It is a safe space for us to share our experiences and interact with one another in community building. The session is facilitated by one to three members of GrenCHAP and the guys are encouraged to bring and share refreshments.
We aim to:
- Facilitate dialogue and the widening of perspectives among GBT men and allies;

Join us once a month, as we meet in a safe space to view and appreciate LGBT films, from the Caribbean and across the globe.
Since the late 1990s there has been an increase in the quantity, quality and diversity of LGBT representation in the media. Furthermore, many of the messages that we receive about sexuality and sexual orientation come to us through the media. Thus, media plays an active role in shaping the way we understand the role sexuality plays in our history, our social institutions, our identities, and our everyday lives.
Although it is important to consider the increasing number of LGBT characters represented in the media, it is more important to critically probe those representations, which are often stereotypical.
- How are LGBT characters represented in the media?
- What do they look like?
- How do they speak?
- What kind of activities do they engage in?
- What specific images and words contribute to our understanding of what it means to be LGBT?
- What impact do LGBT representations have on the opportunities and possibilities for LGBT-identified individuals in their personal and professional lives?
At the end of each film, participants will administer the Vito Russo Test, which examines the way LGBT characters are portrayed and situated within a narrative.
TO PASS THE VITO RUSSO TEST, THE FOLLOWING MUST BE TRUE:
- The film contains a character that is identifiably lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender.
- That character must not be solely or predominantly defined by their sexual orientation or gender identity.
- The LGBT character must be tied into the plot in such a way that their removal would have a significant effect.
Teen Think Book Chat
GrenCHAP has joined the Mt. Zion Library and Resource Centre Partners for Literacy initiative. The sole objective of the group is to provide a forum where LGBT people, allies and friends of the community who enjoy reading books can discuss our shared interest. A love of reading and a desire to share that love with others is the only criteria to join.
This is a peer education model reaching low-income non-identifying marginalized youth, and young adults in underserved communities with outreach, referrals, HIV testing, male/female condoms, and support. This initiative aims to increase access to primary and sexual reproductive health care services amongst key populations.
